Hi Everyone, my name is Kate and I am the Team Lead for the Summer Events Team. We have been off to a great start this summer in our TLC Summer Events Cruiser, and have attended many events such as the Pedestrian Parades for mental wellness (in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Wabamun), the Life and Leisure Expo, the Stony Plain Farmer’s Day parade, and many soccer, football, and lacrosse practices.
Our life in the Cruiser begins before we hit the road. We begin by asking the community where they will be and then we make an action plan. We ensure the Cruiser is full of gas, frozen treats, fun activities, and of course, a lot of energy and laughter. Although we make a plan, we are very flexible. If we see a fun activity taking place, we stop by and engage in the excitement. While driving from event to event, the Summer Events Team gives their best try at singing lyrics to their favorite songs, sharing stories, and brainstorming ideas on how we can add even more entertainment to events in the community.
Engaging with members of the community is very rewarding. Not only does it provide us with general feedback as to how we’re doing as a facility for residents, but we also get to experience first-hand how grateful individuals are that we are spending the evening with them at their child’s sports practice or game, or even block party or community event. Members of this community are very grateful to live in such a great place and their appreciation motivates us to keep having fun in the Cruiser all summer long.
Hope to see you soon!
