Hello everyone, it’s me again, Kate, from the Summer Events Team. What a beautiful summer we have been having - it has been a perfect mix of hot and cool, and sometimes even a summer storm. Speaking of beautiful, have you had the chance to explore the beautiful community we live in? Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County all have countless activities and sight seeing. Luckily for the Summer Events Team, this summer we have had a chance to see just what our community has to offer.
There are many organizations in the community that put on excellent events. We have collaborated with Spruce Grove’s Pop Up Playground, Stony Plain’s Park Squad, and the Alberta Parenting for the Future Association. While the kids at these events love trying out the PLINKO board for their chance to win an awesome prize, the parents often share stories about how much fun they have been having with their children hanging out in the community. Our fun prizes include bouncy balls, frisbees, sunglasses, bags, hockey pucks, and t-shirts. The bouncy balls always the biggest hit, regardless of the age we are interacting with.
We also have a lot of fun going to the Log Cabin and skatepark in Spruce Grove. The Log Cabin, put on by FCSS Spruce Grove has created a fun, safe place for the community to use through out the year. The kids using both the Log Cabin are not only respectful, but usually have great stories to share with you. Also, the tricks they can do on their skateboards, scooters, and bikes are amazing - the backflips on the scooters are especially impressive. Thanks to North Central Co-Op, we always bring frozen treats with us for the kids to enjoy on the hot summer days.
Some of the beautiful places we love to spend time include the Stony Plain Outdoor Pool, Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area, Constable Chelsey Robinson Day Use Area, and Spruce Grove’s Jubilee Park. We love the outdoor pool because on a cooler day, it is always a couple degrees warmer on the pool deck, also, the big trees make for a relaxing area. All of the other areas mentioned have lots of walking trails, picnic tables, and fire pits. These are all great places to spend a couple hours enjoying time with family and friends.
The Summer Events Team can agree that we love learning so much about the community - both with things to do and the variety of programs offered to residents. We are so grateful to spend the summer outside and to build relationships with members of the community. We also enjoy spreading the fun and joy of the Tri Leisure Centre outside of the walls of the facility and all over Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County. We are happy to promote fun, physical activity, especially because it means so much to every member of the Team.
Thank you to everyone for welcoming the Summer Events Team to your outdoor activities. It was a pleasure making community connections, and we hope to continue to see everyone around the facility over the fall and winter months.
Have a great summer!
-Kate
