Summer has officially begun! The Summer Events Team has had a blast kicking off the beginning of summer with the people of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County. Every day with the TLC Cruiser is different – some days we are invited to events and other days we make surprise visits.
In June, we went to the Graminia Bike Rodeo. After participants learned about bike safety, they came and joined us to play fun games with the hula hoops like hop scotch and tic-tac-toe relay. Participants also won TLC swag after spinning our prize wheel; however, since we promote FUN physical activity, participants had to do jumping jacks or squats, or tell us what their favorite outdoor activity is. In June, we also attended the Spruce Grove Library’s Be Our Guest program where we facilitated an outdoor afternoon camp.
We were so excited to celebrate Canada Day with the community, so we headed out to Jubilee Park in Spruce Grove with a cooler full of frozen treats. After we enjoyed the pancake breakfast, we made our way through the crowds and tried to ensure everyone got a frozen treat. After, we made our way to Heritage Park in Stony Plain and gave away frozen treats and some TLC swag.
Sometimes when we get invited to events, we do not always know what we will be attending. For example, we brought an obstacle course to a picnic in the park – little did we know, everyone attending was wearing their best business clothes and not everyone was willing to run the course in their dress shoes. We made the most out of the event by competing for time with those who were willing to participate. The starting time for each participant was around 22 to 24 seconds. Once we all started to become a little more competitive, one participant set a record by running the course in 16 seconds! He won bragging rights and took home a bouncy ball as a trophy.
We want to say thank-you to our sponsors who make it possible for the TLC Cruiser to be out and about all summer long. On our social media platforms we have been doing draws for free Booster Juice! Booster Juice supplies the smoothies and we deliver them to the winners at their sporting events. North Central Co-op supplies the frozen treats which bring a smile to the faces of many on our hot summer days. Also, thank-you to Zender Ford for the Ford Flex, it has more than enough room for everything we bring with us and an amazingly comfortable way to get around the region. Finally, thank-you to Fine Line Industries for branding the TLC Cruiser and for making us stand out wherever we go.
We cannot wait to see what kind of excitement the rest of the summer brings us. Keep an eye out for the Summer Events Team at local parks, playgrounds, sporting events, spray parks, and outdoor pools. We hope to see you soon!
